CBD 101

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most prevalent one of over 113 active compounds found in the hemp plant called cannabinoids. It is a nutrient full of powerful antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. It helps regulate cellular communication to achieve homeostasis in the body, which has been shown to alleviate stress and anxiety, enhance mood & focus, and reduce pain and inflammation. Research shows significant potential for cannabidiol to be a valuable contributor to our emotional health & wellness. And it’s non-psychoactive (no THC) so you get all the highlights without the high.

What are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a group of fatty compounds found in hemp and the human body. They are the primary chemical compounds produced by the cannabis plant. These compounds are key players in normal immune and central nervous system functioning. There are more than 80 identified cannabinoids.

A system within the human body called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) has receptors that these compounds fit into, using cannabinoids to repair damaged cells and provide a state of internal stability necessary for survival, despite fluctuations in our external environment.

According to a patent filed by the US Department of Health & Human Services, cannabinoids are "antioxidants and neuroprotectants."

What is Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?

The human endocannabinoid system (ECS), named after the plant that led to its discovery, is perhaps the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells.

The endocannabinoid system, with its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and all of the body's organs, is literally a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system we begin to see a mechanism that explains how states of consciousness can promote health or disease.

How does CBD work?

CBD works by regulating our body’s ECS or Endocannabinoid System. You can think of your ECS like an internal communication network between your brain and your central nervous system. This system is responsible for modulating our sleep, appetite, stress, anxiety, mood, immune system, reproduction, memory, pain and inflammation.

Once CBD enters the body, it attaches to receptors found along the ECS and quickly begins regulating the body’s optimal balance.

How fast does CBD work?

The answer depends on your biochemistry. Get Supr is made from a special water-solubilized CBD, which means our CBD is able to absorb into your bloodstream faster than oils or capsule products.

Will too much CBD hurt?

According to a 2018 study by the World Health Organization, CBD has not been shown to have negative effects on the body, regardless of the amount consumed.

Is CBD legal?

Yes. On December 20, 2018, President Donald J. Trump signed the 2018 Farm Bill in to law, making it immediately go in to effect. The era of hemp prohibition is over. Hemp is now permanently removed from the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) and is forever deemed an agricultural commodity, just like corn, lettuce and avocados. By redefining hemp to include its 'extracts, cannabinoids & derivatives' Congress explicitly has removed popular hemp products - such as hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) - from the purview of the CSA.
